Ah Spring and the flowers are in full bloom, the nights are balmy and the carpet beetles are eating just about everything that they can.

Seen any of these things lurking about? Here they are very disappointed as they don’t eat Canadian coins, but that’s about all they don’t eat. Carpet Beetles feast on dead insects, feathers in old birds’ nests, things they find desiccated in spider’s webs, and, as their name implies, carpets. Which means that they eat wool. And cotton. And leather. And pet hair. Silk and, … well, you get the idea.

Regular and thorough cleaning of clothing and your home is required to keep the little monsters at bay. Infested clothing can be sealed in a plastic baggie and frozen for two weeks to kill the larvae. The damage they do to your favorite sweaters and suits can be repaired by skillful reweaving of the garment.

What luck! Reweaving of Richmond is a great resource at your disposal. Send, or drop off the garment at one of our approved partners, we’ll collect it, inspect it and get back to you with an estimate to have the garment repaired and what you can expect in terms of the effectiveness of the finished work. We won’t start until you approve the work. Click the link above and download our order form. Fill it out and include it with the damaged garment. We’ll get back to you asap!

It used to be that odd trousers were an afterthought, but in today’s corporate casual environment, they are a basic of your third wardrobe. More men today are forced to rely on sport coats and trousers than they are suits for the day-to-day wardrobe.

And now is a great time to buy some new trousers. If you bought super luxury fabrics and wore them constantly through the last four years, it’s probably time to relegate them to the weekend wardrobe and get something new. Leviner Wood’s Super 110s, 120s, linen/silk italian and english fabrics on this card — which for the last seven years have run $465 are now just $300. Buy three pair of custom trousers for $900!

(Keep clicking through to get larger images.)

Even better! We have the return of client favorites — gabardine and houndstooth wools — hard-wearing, wrinkle resistant and great traveling trousers that once cost $350 are now just $195! Custom-made-for-you trousers cheaper than a pair of designer jeans!

(Keep clicking through to get larger images.)

If you’ve been thinking of trying a new style (flat front, slim cut trousers, for example) or need to replace some older pairs, the time is right! Call Larry today these fabrics, at these prices will go fast! 804.928.7946. Get ‘em while it’s hot.

Seersucker. Named for the Indian words for milk and sugar, which they thought the fabric resembled. The brilliance of seersucker is that its natural wrinkles make sure that only 60% of the fabric touches your skin at any time. The lightweight cotton/poly blend ensures that you stay cool and not rumpled.

So why go custom with Leviner Wood? In our climate controlled environment, you can design and wear almost any style year ’round. So why not a double-breasted, a three-roll- two button, or even a three piece just like Atticus Finch’s (“Stand up Miss Scout, your father’s passing….”)?

Here in the capital of the South, we know seersucker will never go out of style. Bless its heart. Custom seersucker suits $825.

Just one of the eight or so books of new swatches that just arrived.

This is the sweet spot, the new fabrics are in, last season’s fabrics that you’ve been eyeing are still available, the pricing hasn’t budged. It’s win-win.

“What?” You say. “That’s because it still is last season… .”

Yes and no. Remember, this isn’t an off-the-rack piece of …. clothing… this is your Leviner Wood custom-tailored garment waiting to be commissioned and made up. And that, my friend, takes about five weeks to make happen. Which puts us smack at Spring’s door.

I’d put up more photos, but they don’t do the fabrics justice. There is some beautiful stuff here, come take a look. Call Larry to schedule an appointment today. 804.928.7946.

We get a lot of this question from our clients: How do I prevent yellow armpit stains on my shirts?

Begin by wearing an undershirt. That didn’t help the Wood-man up there though.

The staining is caused by an interaction between your sweat (and pH balance) and the chemicals in the antiperspirant. A roll-on or gel will exacerbate the problem. Make sure it is completely dry before you get dressed.

I’ve had a lot of success from switching from an antiperspirant to a combination of deodorant and talcum powder (Shower-to-Shower, for example.) That hasn’t worked for Larry as well.

Another solution is to use less product (that comes right from Gillette Co., by the way). Most men assume that more works better — that’s not the case. A thin layer of protection is all you need.

If you launder your own shirts, pretreat the armpit with Oxyclean and then wash. You might also have your shirts laundered and ironed instead of dry-cleaned.

Any other solutions are more than welcome. What works for you?

43°F when I poked my nose outside this am was a lot better than the 32°F the other morning. Ya feelin’ it yet? Winter is coming fast. I don’t mind. Because I know the perfect fabric — comfortable, feels great, tailors beautifully, dresses up or down — for cooler weather: flannel. And right now we have some beautiful flannels. If you really want to get subversive consider a chocolate brown or camel suit or sportcoat. The sportcoat will pair especially well with gray flannels or jeans. What more could you ask for?

Come into Leviner Wood Custom Clothiers and Shirtmakers and check out the selection. They’re really good this year, subtle, classic, timeless, but not expected.

1) Each piece can be worn separate from the others, giving you a vest with a blue blazer or under a leather jacket, trousers with a sweater, and the jacket with jeans. Especially in the more modern trim cut models.

2) The newest tweeds aren’t the bullet-proof stuff that used to stand up on its own. they are lighter, more wearable and less constructed — making a full tweed suit more comfortable — while still standing up to the many winters to come.

3) Tweed was developed to help hunters blend into the local hillsides. You’re essentially wearing a stealth suit of camouflage.
