Corduroy
Henry VIII wore it to hunt. Robert Redford wore a whole suit of the stuff in “All the President’s Men.” As does Wes Anderson (all bespoke, of course.) What we recognize as corduroy wasn’t always the fabric of kings and movie stars. In the late 18th century, it was working man’s wear favored during the Industrial Revolution. During the ‘50s and ‘60s, college kids got into the act changing out of denim and khakis for seasonal cords. By the ‘80s, surfers were wearing corduroy short shorts with their Vans. And then there was grunge.
All of which is to say that corduroy is one incredibly versatile and extremely comfortable fabric. We like it in unstructured sportcoats with jeans, and as classically cut trousers for the weekend (especially with a Harris Tweed sportcoat.) Want more versatility and comfort? The new stuff is woven with some stretch and looks great made up in our five-pocket model. Go anywhere, corduroy will travel well with you.
