The Luxury Solid Color Hopsack Blazer

The first thing to get out of the way, not all hopsack is created equal.

The hopsack of yesteryear was the bulletproof choice for a navy blazer. Particularly when it was woven out of mainly polyester fibers. Short of an open flame, there wasn’t much that you could throw at a poly hopsack that was going to faze it. We don’t recommend the poly blend, nor the flame.

Hopsack, of course, has more natural origins. It gets its name from the jute or hemp bags that were used to carry hops back during the Middle Ages in Merry Old England. (Hopsak in Middle English, from the words hoppe and sak.) But, when we refer to “hopsack” we’re really referencing the weave – specifically, an open, airy basketweave – that is perfect for spring and summer, especially in the hot and humid south.

After all, there is still a time and place where the navy blazer is the undisputed king of the closet. As such, it is worth your investment in the best hopsack you can afford.
